Working with Castorama, the leading French DIY specialist, was our first International commission and proof that our service procedures worked successfully overseas.
The link with Castorama was forged with B&Q and particularly the parent company Kingfisher who in 2002 acquired the French retailer. Our role, to survey the store estate, marked the very beginning of a commercial merger of the UK and European operations. Surveying overseas proved challenging. We recruited French speaking personnel to support the core survey team and placed all those involved on language training including managers who attended additional cultural training to ensure they were prepared for the many meetings to come. To our credit the accurate survey plans were returned to schedule with merchandise labelled in French. It was an exciting experience, especially for those who enjoyed an expensed visit to the French Riviera. The legacy is one of confidence in our developing service capability.
